Tkay Maidza Drops Dinojammin' Debut Mixtape (free download)
What do you get when you mix dinosaurs, some smooth 90s house and a flood of sharp-as-a-knife wordflow? Just ask Tkay Maidza, whose debut mixtape, Switch Tape, dropped just last week.
The talented Zimbabwe-born 18-year-old hails from Adelaide, Australia and has taken the dance world by storm, touring with Nina Las Vegas and working with major names in hip hop. But she’s got a flow that’s all her own and a style that’s fresh, confident and unique.
You’ll not just hear all the makings of hip-hop in her works, from the likes of MIA to Nicki Minaj, you’ll even get some remnants of Grouplove and even a Mortal Kombat sample. With a voice that’s smooth as butter and an infectious beat, Tkay makes you feel like she’s just free-styling right in front of you and you’ll feel like it’s impossible not to pull out your best shoulder-poppin’ dance moves.
Her single “U-Huh”, a collaboration with fellow Australian producer Elk, debuted in August and since then, she’s hit the United States playing at LA’s Culture Collide and New York’s CMJ Music Festival. The truly unique part of this mixtape is that it melds so many different genres including some bubbly synthpop, house, rap and dancehall electronic.
The self-proclaimed “Dinojammer and Lumpy Space Princess” first teamed up with fellow Australian producer/songwriter Bad Cop to bring us the radio hit “Handle My Ego” and the aptly-named jam “Brontosaurus”.
"Switch Tape" is available for free download on Soundcloud. Connect with Tkay on Facebook and Twitter and be sure to look out for more stunning hits from her in the future:
