We are proud to premiere the latest music video for The Folk's single "Fire in the Backroom." - The four core members (Sara Bortolon-Vettor & Emma Bortolon-Vettor, Mark Ferrari, and Liam Magahay) that make up The Folk weren’t satisfied to sit on their laurels following the release of 2014’s We All Say and almost immediately uprooted themselves to a small two bedroom in Montreal’s Mile End where they spent four months writing, polishing, re-writing and ultimately recording their second LP with Pat Gregoire (Islands, Pat Jordache, Sister Suvi) at hotel2tango.
"The music video for The Folk's Fire in the Backroom creates an abstract visual experience, portraying a non linear, nonsensical narrative, a mysterious event that can't be explained. Opening with abstracted imagery that builds along with the music, the visuals and narrative structure of the overall piece carry a subtle absurdity reminiscent of a psychedelic drug trip gone wrong. The song is about the feeling of something intangible occurring in the background, which on the surface may go unnoticed, but carries an undeniable presence." - Adrienne Crossman
"The world outside your head is full of wonder. What you find there might transform you forever. The majority of us are content to experience life through an unchanging lens; a complacent comfort. This song is about challenging yourself to find answers in the world that surrounds you, rather than within you. Don’t fear the burn." - The Folk on "Fire In The Backroom"

Calling their music FuckPop the band explains it as “To fuck is to multiply, pleasure, do. Pop is for everyone. This is FuckPop; a distorted vision of digestible music”, this distortion at times feels Zappa inspired with a grandiose sense of pageantry that belies their affinity for classic rock. Their colourfully atmospheric and orchestral songs breath joy and lightness into the themes of dysfunction, death, and the struggles of overcoming mental illness. The album begins with the extremely personal “Avery”, sounding like a Pink Floyd rendition of an Air song, a dialogue between a girl who was dying since she was born and twins who have lived their whole lives together but are killing each other from the inside.  The tension is subsequently broken by the heavy psych-rock “Fire In The Back Room”, which will be accompanied by an Adrienne Crossman (Alvvays, Austra, Omhouse) directed video. The whole thing is capped off by the almost out of place “Save Us!”, which comes off like the jaunty bastard child of John Prine and Uncle Tupelo/Wilco. The Folk have never been afraid to fuse their favourite, disparate, elements together into releases that stay oddly cohesive and “Every Colour, Present Wonder” is no different.

Having cultivated a local following over the past few years playing alongside the likes of Screaming Females, Diana and Calvin Love, and this album sees them embark on their most ambitious tour to date with solid Ontario, Quebec and Eastern Canadian touring this fall.
