The Next Terry, Patrick and Juergen: Fashion Photographers You Need to Know
As fashion enthusiasts, flipping through our favourite glossies and scrolling through our beloved fashion blogs are all part of our complete breakfast. But have you ever wondered, who are these geniuses behind the lens? Lo and behold, here's our top five fashion photographers that are secretly responsible for all those editorials you've saved.
Forsberg used to be a model, already designed clothes for Madewell and shot some of your favourite models for his magazine Transmission- not to mention he’s close friends with model/ muse Hanne Gaby and Kasia Struss. He’s known for making raw images of models in their natural state, usually make up free and in their birthday suit.
Amsterdam based photographer Sassen is the genius behind Carven’s recent F/W 13 campaign. Her soft photographs are compelling and are an absolute dream. She’s also shot for I-D magazine, Numéro, Miu Miu and the list goes on.
3. Tim Barber
Tim Barber has an upbeat approach in his photographs so we weren’t surprised to find out that he’s been previously commissioned by Nastygal and Urban Outfitters (he shot six catalogues for UO). Also, he was previously a photo editor at Vice Magazine and is the founder of TinyVices.
Phillips takes pride in shooting girls that aren’t skinny or pretty, rather she’s interested in models with a strong personality or some attitude. Perhaps that’s why she’s been commissioned to shoot for brands like Stussy, and magazines like Nylon.
Writers at C-Heads Magazine sums up Purienne’s photo aesthetics in one quote: “Purienne- Very 70s Playboy meets 80s National Geographic.” He is also the founder and editor of Mirage Magazine and thinks “secretly being really poor or really rich” is sexy.
