PREMIERE | Multi-Instrumentalist Warez From Orangeville, Ontario Drops Visuals For "Stupid"
It's all for the best.
Warez, also known as being part of the plez-rock band Falcon Jane, which we've featured on here before has gone solo-dolo for his new project and hit us up to premiere his latest visuals.
“Stupid” is an up-beat, twangy ballad about giving up on love, featuring jangly guitars, bouncy synths, trumpet, and a lo-fi drum beat that holds it all together.
“Never said it to your face before, but I ain’t looking for your love no more, feeling like this world is stupid, walk the streets, baby, I’m not lucid”
The video plays on two contrasting scenes: Warez having an emotional time in the countryside, surrounded by fields of grazing cows, and Warez triumphantly singing and playing his heart out in front of a green screen with cheesy colour gradients serving as a background. Here's what he had to say about the idea behind it all:
I wrote the lyrics for this song one lonely night when I was really bummed out. My love life wasn't doing so hot, I felt depressed and annoyed with where I was, and it felt like the whole world was going crazy. The music however is this goofy, fun-sounding track that has a playful vibe about it. I think the two contrasting ideas behind the lyrics and music work well with the video. You find the main character in a field and in the countryside, distraught and disoriented, but when he is in front of the green screen, its all smiles and showmanship... most of the time. I think a lot of young people are struggling with seeming exciting and interesting when the camera is rolling or when people are watching, even when they are feeling crappy on the inside.
The video was directed by Sara May of True Nature Media and Falcon Jane.
