LISTEN | Get hypnotized with Ottawa duo Garçons' spoken word jam "Pink Dress"
A meticulously crafted DIY mentality stands at the center of Canadian based duo Garçons' (singer/songwriter Deelo and record producer/director Julian Strangelove) ethos. With an eye for striking visuals and a flair for the sonically eclectic, Garçons writes and produces their own music as well as their pastel-soaked music videos and technicolor photos.
Deelo and Strangelove's creative control over all aspects of Garçons means they're able to push their music to the fringes of what's expected, as evident in their latest single "Pink Dress."
The song opens with Deelo phoning a friend to tell him about the girl he's just met, the elusive "Pink Dress." The spoken word intro then opens into a full blown love letter to this manic pixie dream girl, anchored by a classic jazz hi-hat swing.
"She is an Angel in a Pink Dress” is what you would say if you were describing the GIRL OF YOUR DREAMS to a friend or even a stranger, but never forget that the GIRL OF YOUR DREAMS went through LIFE to get to your DREAM. I think Pink Dress highlights a very specific aspect of fantasy that people like to get lost in, while forgetting that nothing can ever be perfect.
