Whose Line Greg Proops Returns To Just For Laughs
If you owned a TV in the 90’s then you’re probably familiar with the hit comedy Whose Line Is It Anyway? that was hosted by Drew Carey and featured the best in improvisational actors. If you didn't own a TV at the time (in which case the entire team here at IX feels sort of sorry for you) then you still probably heard people talking about Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady and Greg Proops, whose antics would have audiences, and viewers, in tears of laughter. Thinking back on their days in the spotlight can bring a chuckle to even the stoniest of faces, and leave people wishing for the good old days when the original Whose Line was still on.
However, if all this talk about Whose Line Is It Anyway? has you feeling nostalgic then be sure to check out Greg Proops’ show here in Montreal for the Just For Laughs Festival which runs until this Thursday, July 24th.
The show is a clever approach to fashion, sexuality, culture, politics, and full of feminism. His act is eloquent, well thought through, and full of clever punchlines. Unlike other shows, which capitalize on slapstick humour, dirty jokes, and exaggerated physical humour, Proops’ routine is clever while still staying refined. Although the piece is filled to the brim with style and class, giving it a highbrow comedy vibe at times, the act still appeals (for the most part) to everyone.
Proops was also extremely approachable, taking the time to go around the bar and shake hands with those attending his show before it began and engaging with audience members during the act in a fun, and friendly, manner.
Be sure to check him out at the Wiggle Room, this week only, before Just For Laughs, and Greg Proops, are gone for the year.
