RYAN Playground quickly became a buzz worthy name in the underground Montreal scene when she started getting recognized for playing various gigs around the city about a year ago. At first glance, this rare phenomenon came onto the scene and built up her name pseudo-organically and pretty quickly, which is not always the case for everyone. Her overall look is what really brought the whole thing together, a look that a lot of people are going to inspire themselves from.

RYAN Playground

Being a self-made beat maker since the young age of 11. Her musical choice became immaculate and touches on a variety of musical genres. Do not underestimate RYAN Playground, as before diving deep into the music world, her eye-catching androgynous look caught the eye of a bunch of people who thought she was the perfect model.  Her first break was knee-deep in the Fashion industry, modelling for the likes of Vera Wang, Joe Fresh, Travis Taddeo, Mackage, and many more.  Although she likes modelling, her focus remains in the music, forging together the barriers that usually separate remixes and covers by infusing them together in her craft.

For this podcast, RYAN Playground decided to focus on her latest fixation; based music. Those little gems that you find in the deep dark holes of the internet and feel proud to show off to your friends. The IXclusive Podcast RYAN put together for us is basically what she is bathing in at the moment. A mix of future-based hip-hop and r&b infused in slow pitched emotional build-ups, exactly what you would need when trying to escape to another realm.

She starts off her mix with a bang by offering us a re-edited version of her debut single "D I A M O N D $" done by Montreal-native WYLNfollowed by an eclectic choice of house-style trap 'bop your neck' type of beats outfitted with an armory of her original beats, rap, and vocals. We got the chance to talk to RYAN to get more insight on her career (after the jump). The 9th edition of the IX Podcast is now available via iTunes, Soundcloud and Mixcloud. Do not sleep on this one.

IX: Who is RYAN Playground?
I like people to discover that by themselves. It's a musical project that's officially been running for a year; but I've been making music since I'm 5. I compose, produce, sing, rap and mix. My girlfriend says that I’m a …☆ magic maker ☆…

IX: When did you start making music?
I started to play drums and guitar at the age of five. I played a bit of violin too when I was younger but what I’ve always really loved about music is the ability to compose my own pieces.

IX: What came first? Writing lyrics, producing, or performing/djing?
Producing and writing lyrics came together before anything else. The first songs I composed were with my guitar and my drums. I shifted to electronic music later; that was around 5 years ago. Djing really only came around later, I learned to Dj and had my first gig only about a year ago.

IX: Did you have any musical background before getting into producing?
Both of my parents are musicians; they play in the Orchestre Métropolitain. They truly are passionate ; they gave me this passion for music and they’ve always been a huge inspiration for me.

IX: What artists have had an influence on your music?
The Postal Service, Moderat, Nosaj Thing, Grimes, Mr. Carmack, A$AP Rocky, Azealia Banks, Cat Power, Blink 182, Gob, Sum 41.

IX: Who comes up with your video concepts? What’s your process?
Mostly a team I've been working called New Work and stylist Izabel Soucy. (http://ilovenewwork.us andhttp://izabelsoucy.com)
My most recent video TOYS was a project with Andy Long Hoang and stylist Tinashe Musara. (http://www.andylonghoang.com/#1)

IX: What is the big plan for the next year?

It's a rare occasion to stand-out as a progressive rock band, to me at least, and Vesper Sails achieved just that.
