Hua Li Set to Debut Bitchin' New Mixtape

Ladies and gentleman, allow me to introduce up-and-coming Montreal recording artist, Hua Li. If you haven’t heard yet, this indie hip-hop phenom has been making waves on the scene for the past little while, showcasing a style of rap as unique as it is infectious.

Hua Li proudly represents the queer scene of Montreal and uses her music to talk about things like sexuality, gender construction, race, drugs, love and rape-culture, just to name a few. It may sound like a lot to take in, but make no mistake, her music is easy to listen to and perfect to party to.

Fans may recognize Hua Li as Peggy Hogan, the name (her real one!) under which she released her first two records, Strike! and To Lie With. While both of of those releases were fantastic, Hogan brings some fresh swagger to the game as Hua Li. Her first mixtape under this name, The Bound Feat, is set to drop on the 22nd and will be free to download. If you want to get a first-hand listen to the new material, be sure to head down to the Royal Pheonix, where a release party will be going down

If you simply can’t wait until then, head over to huali.bandcamp.com to hear her first single, "Pinkett". A video for this track is currently in production and will be premiering this summer, so keep an eye on IX for that.

For a special bonus treat, check out my little sit-down with Hua Li below!
